Indorama Ventures gains real-time OT threat visibility in Nigeria.

Nozomi + QRadar deliver 360° OT visibility across petrochemical facilities.

// Client overview

Indorama Eleme Petrochemical Limited (IEPL), located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria - a group company of Indorama Corporation - is a poly-olefins producer of a range of polyethylene and polypropylene products. The complex runs state-of-the-art olefins, polyethylene/butene and polypropylene plants supported by a captive power plant, utilities, effluent treatment, storage tanks, bagging and warehouses.

Indorama's Nigerian facilities across the plant and substation used complex infrastructure comprising Industrial Control System (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) systems, giving rise to significant cybersecurity challenges. With an expanding threat landscape, the organization struggled to maintain a secure OT environment.

// Key challenges
Incomplete asset inventories and the absence of real-time threat visibility posed serious risks to critical manufacturing systems and operational continuity.
Limited cybersecurity measures across the ICS and OT environment.
Concerns over third-party vendors who frequently accessed the ICS network for support and maintenance, without a 24x7 threat detection and response service.
Achieve real-time threat visibility across ICS systems, the OT network and networked assets, and establish daily asset inventories.
Improve network monitoring and incident-response capabilities across critical, volatile production processes.
// The solution · highlights
Inspira reviewed Indorama's control-system architectures and networks and proposed a solution for effective monitoring of networks and OT assets.
Nozomi Guardian sensors and a Central Management Console (CMC) monitored the individual plant proprietary control networks and delivered real-time OT visibility after a learning period.
IBM QRadar monitored the system logs of all servers and workstations, with SIEM correlating events for timely threat detection and rapid response on a single pane.
Firewalls segmented each plant with provision for NAT'd IPs.
Vulnerability assessments and continuous monitoring were run across the OT environment and integrated with the on-prem SIEM.
// Outcome & benefits
360-degree threat visibility: Indorama gained real-time visibility into its ICS environment, enabling proactive monitoring and quick response to potential threats.
Better asset management: a comprehensive automated daily asset inventory gave detailed device information and complete control over the OT infrastructure, meeting regulatory requirements.
Enhanced OT cybersecurity: daily asset inventories, SIEM, VAPT and network monitoring protected critical infrastructure, improved incident response and minimized risk.

The engagement with the Inspira Enterprise team has indeed been rewarding for us. The OT cybersecurity solution has helped us gain greater visibility of assets across the plant while ensuring continuous real-time vulnerability assessment. The intrusion detection system was integrated with the on-prem SIEM so that OT alerts could be monitored on a unified dashboard for remediation.
