Tech Achieve Media (Q & A) Pritam Shah, Inspira Enterprise | Tech Achieve Media

There are several factors contributing to the sharp increase in OT security prioritization across critical infrastructure in India. Systems deployed across airports, healthcare institutions, pharmaceutical facilities, and manufacturing environments are prime targets for cyberattacks, as threat actors are well aware that much of this infrastructure relies on legacy technologies. Today, with stricter government regulatory mandates such as specific guidelines for IT/OT security from the Central Electricity Authority and other regulatory bodies, the demand for OT security is increasing. A significant rise in cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure is also driven by geopolitical tensions and cross-border conflicts India has with some of its neighbors, and the systems have to be kept secure. Large-scale digitization of OT environments is gaining traction, and threat profiles are shifting from traditional cyberespionage to description-oriented attacks, which are now prevalent and are driving the growth of OT security.

Cyber Resilience in Times of Crisis: How Enterprises Can Stay Secure and Operational

Today, we live in an era of constant digital disruption, where an organization’s ability to withstand and recover from cyberattacks often determines its long-term success. Crises can emerge in many forms, be it global pandemics, economic instability, or rising geopolitical tensions, and in such periods, large-scale cyberattacks increasingly pose a significant threat to businesses, often with impacts far greater than what is immediately visible. Moreover, modern-day cyberthreats leverage advanced technologies and techniques that present unprecedented challenges that traditional security measures cannot address. With enterprises operating in an interconnected digital and geopolitical environment, their business continuity gets impacted by state-sponsored cyber threats and supply chain disruptions.

DPDP Compliance for financial institutions is no longer only related to data collection, but also to the purpose of collecting and providing consent for it. Banks and NBFCs should provide clear disclosure of who will access the data, the kind of access, and why it has been collected and how long it is retained. These institutions are required to obtain consent for access and access revocation by leveraging the consent management platform.

Beyond Compliance: Building a Culture of Data Security in the Digital Enterprise

Amazon’s product recommendations, based on customer data, and Netflix’s personalized recommendations, created on viewers’ data, have increased sales and higher retention rates, respectively. Data is becoming the lifeforce of a business with the digital landscape having undergone a paradigm shift. Organisations that safeguard their data build trust and enhance their reputation. Customers refuse to be associated with brands they do not trust. Today, all organisations are increasingly data-driven, leveraging data for operational efficiency, customer experience, innovation, and informed decision-making.

Beyond the Firewall: Managing Third and Fourth-Party Cyber Risks in an Interconnected World

Beyond the Firewall: Managing Third and Fourth-Party Cyber Risks in an Interconnected WorldAkhilesh Soni Vice President - Head of Cybersecurity Advisoryhttps://etedge-insights.com/technology/cyber-security/beyond-the-firewall-managing-third-and-fourth-party-cyber-risks-in-an-interconnected-world/Supply chains are today the driving force of global economic growth. With organizations relying on suppliers, cloud platforms, technology partners, and service providers, this ecosystem brings about a reduction in operational and logistics costs, improved customer satisfaction, and market competitiveness. However, it also exponentially expands the attack surface. Third-party risks from direct vendors and suppliers are present because they have direct access to the organization’s data. When these suppliers engage subcontractors, they create a layer of fourth-party vendors, further expanding the risk landscape and posing an even greater issue for organizations to effectively mitigate risks. According to the 2025 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report, third-party involvement in breaches has doubled, rising from 15% to nearly 30% with supply chain cyberattacks. The 2025 Supply Chain Cybersecurity Trends Survey by SecurityScorecard revealed 88% of cybersecurity leaders are concerned about supply chain cyber risks. These statistics compel organizations to replace traditional vendor management practices with advanced measures.Challenges with traditional vendor risk managementTraditional risk management practices rely on manual processes and static, point-in-time assessments that are not only slow but are also inaccurate. Delays in onboarding a vendor and limited insights into the vendor’s security posture are seen. They fail to address advanced AI-driven attacks and cloud vulnerabilities, putting organizations at risk. Third-party vendors should undergo enhanced due diligence, continuous monitoring, and periodic assessments and reassessments. Managing third-party and fourth-party cyber risks requires a paradigm shift from reactive vendor assessments to proactive cyber risk governance. Some of the key pillars of advanced vendor risk management that can reduce exposure to threats are,● Risk-based segmentationAt the outset, it is crucial to identify the vendors and subcontractors and update the list. Also, it should be noted that not all vendors require the same level of due diligence. The cloud provider handling the organization’s sensitive data, or vendors with access to financial data, have to be more scrutinized than the one that delivers day-to-day office supplies. To ensure this is done, it is important to divide the vendors with risk-based segmentation so that security teams focus more on where there is the highest exposure.● Continuous monitoring and threat intelligenceOrganizations should implement real-time monitoring for the entire supply chain to identify and address all potential threats and vulnerabilities. This monitoring should be structured and ongoing, along with the review of vendor access, audit logs, and more. Any anomaly should be reported. Threat intelligence should be leveraged by organizations to ensure they stay a step ahead of threats.● Implement zero-trust architectureOrganizations should not blindly trust third-party vendors, as even a small error from the latter can have a devastating impact with loss of customers’ and stakeholders’ trust, financial drain, and reputational damage. By establishing the principle of ‘never trust, always verify’, all access requests from vendors are continuously authenticated and authorized, minimizing the attack surface significantly. Implementing the ‘principle of least privilege’ ensures vendors have only the minimum access that is just required to perform their specific tasks.● Ensure automating of processesDue diligence of third and fourth parties in order to reduce risks is certainly a tedious process when done manually. This is all the more labor-intensive in large organizations, where they have thousands of vendors with an excessive drain on human resources. Automated tools can address fatigue while significantly reducing paperwork. Automating TPRM services can transform manual workflows into AI-driven ones, driving efficiency, saving time and resources, and eliminating human error. It facilitates the scaling of vendor onboarding. With third-party vendors managed efficiently by AI and automation, there is no need for organizations to scale their human resources.● Protection from insider threats, especially Shadow ITThe use of unauthorized software solutions or devices by employees and third-party vendors, called Shadow IT, adversely impacts businesses, putting organizations at risk. The IT team is mostly not aware of the practices and will not be able to protect the assets. Organizations lack the view of the usage of unauthorized software and tools, and cannot check their usage either. By implementing appropriate controls on the usage of these solutions by employees and vendors, organizations can mitigate the risks from insider threats.● Enforcement of identity and access controlsIAM is key to securing organizations from third-party risks by implementing policies such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), role-based access, and timely deprovisioning. Single-sign-ons also reduce the risk of unauthorized access, both by internal and external partners. Role-based controls should also take into consideration the role, location, device, and user behavior to identify potential vulnerabilities quickly. Implementing a robust IAM framework in TPRM enables mitigating risks from breaches of sensitive data. It also establishes compliance with regulatory standards and strengthens supply chain security on the whole.● Robust incident response planIn the unfortunate case of a security incident due to third party breach, the organization should ensure it is contained by implementing remediation activities such as removing the usage of third-party products and implementing alternate solutions, while maintaining business operations. A robust incident response plan identifies, investigates, and reacts to data breaches that impact the organization due to vendors and other business associates. The plan should include databases of both third and fourth-party vendors, assessments to gauge incident impact, and performance of root-cause analysis. Co-ordinated playbooks with critical vendors can ensure rapid containment, clarity in communications, and reduced business disruption during a security incident.Since cybersecurity is an ongoing journey, it is important to evaluate cybersecurity measures and practices. Managing supply chain and third-party risk is foundational to sustainable growth. By incorporating security into governance, procurement, technology, and culture, organizations can establish a resilient digital ecosystem beyond the firewall.__________________________________________________________________________________
